OUTLAWS IN LOVE is the second book from artist and author Christopher Labine and serves as the prequel to GHOSTED. Spanning more than 200 pages, this monochrome collection is printed on heavy 100lb uncoated paper, allowing the book to function both as a visual narrative and an interactive coloring book.
The book features more than 100 βmercury inkβ sketches exploring themes of queer identity, intimacy, fantasy, and the mythology of the American cowboy. Created between 2023 and 2026, the works have appeared at queer country events, in independent publications, and at the Tom of Finland Art & Culture Festival in 2023 and 2024. The series received βBest in Showβ recognition at San Diego Pride in 2025, and Christopher was named featured artist by the Long Beach Pride Arts Council in 2024.
Alongside its erotic and western imagery, the book confronts subjects including mental health, childhood trauma, American conservatism, censorship, and the use of art as resistance during a period of rising political extremism. Through both personal narrative and collaborative storytelling, OUTLAWS IN LOVE examines how queer creativity can become an act of survival, defiance, and community building.
In addition to the original artwork, the publication was developed in collaboration with more than 30 creatives from around the world, combining photography, performance, fashion, music, leatherwork, and storytelling into a large-scale archive of contemporary queer western culture.
